Job Overview

Under close supervision from university law enforcement officer or supervisor, checks and reports on safety and security conditions of grounds and/or buildings and/or equipment and/or investigates crimes, complaints or accidents, plus may perform any of the following as assigned; assists in apprehensions or detain violators or clients; assists law enforcement officers and firefighters during emergencies and/or enforces motor vehicle regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Work under close supervision.
  • Maintain security of grounds and/or buildings.
  • Contact and communicate with citizens.
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue citations.
  • Intervene in conflicts between individuals and groups.
  • Execute civil processes.
  • Testify in court.
  • Complete radio and telephone communications.
  • Take field notes.
  • Prepare narratives, summaries and incident case paperwork with supervision.
  • Preserve and protect crime scenes.
  • Write incident and other related reports.
  • Administer first aid and emergency care.
  • Assess situations for emergency medical.
  • Use proper protective equipment.
  • Assist stranded motorist.
  • Collect and properly route lost and found property.
  • Follow and report suspicious vehicles or persons.

  • Investigate unusual odors and sounds.
  • Enforce University rules and regulations, with supervision.
  • Use less than lethal force when appropriate.
  • Drive security vehicle.
  • Conduct proactive patrol.
  • Assist medical staff with restraints of patients.
  • Assist medical staff with locating AWOL patients.
  • Participate in COP programs with supervision.
  • Detain offenders with supervision.
  • Maintain custody of offenders with supervision.
  • Monitor and investigate intrusion, fire and CCTV alarms.
  • Assist police officers and fire fighters as needed.
  • Escort persons as appropriate.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.
  • Maintain high visibility presence in strategic areas around campus.
  • Engage with public with friendly customer service messages, such as directions and safe routes around campus.
  • Partner with the UC faculty, staff, students and surrounding communities to help solve chronic quality of life concerns.
  • Document activities by writing detailed reports to understand disorder, crime, and chronic problems.
  • Distribute to UC community crime prevention and safety related information.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED equivalency.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • No criminal record.
  • Must pass physical agility assessment, background investigation, psychological assessment, and polygraph examination.
  • Must possess a current valid state issued operator's license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Security hazards.
May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
