Security Assistant (Police Dispatcher)

Major Duties:
Receives and compiles information from various sources relating to police and emergency incidents. Conducts driver's license inquiries, criminal history checks, and wants/warrants checks on individuals at the request of officers. Furnishes information to persons regarding Police Service policies and Regulations for the purpose of preventing infractions of Regulation and preventing unnecessary police responses. Assists outside law enforcement officers on official business. Receives emergency calls and dispatches appropriate personnel to the calls. Ensures the orderly flow of communication between the police operations office, the Chief's office, and the uniformed patrol officers. Makes facility-wide overhead announcements during medical and missing persons emergencies. Operates a variety of communications equipment, such as computers, alarm processors, radio consoles, SSTV system, remote controllers, and more. Compiles and prepares reports relating to events occurring in the operation of the police operations office for dissemination of the completed product to various supervisors, department heads, and top management officials for coordination of emergency situations. Operates databases and systems related to the NJDMV, Report Executive, and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Monitors the operation of all communication/security, fire alarm panels and related electronic equipment daily. Maintains digital Desk Journal documenting all police actions that is regularly used and subject to review in court cases, administrative actions, and other legal cases. Work Schedule:

Specialized
Experience:
At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is possessing administrative and/or clerical skills and having practical knowledge of specific security objectives., programs, methods, and procedures in carrying out support tasks related to security administration; working knowledge of federal, agency, or local policies and procedures related to suitability/security requirements and determinations for individuals assigned to facilities; understanding of rules governing the use of radio frequencies, transmission, storage, and divulgence of information received via radio and through National Crime Information Center (NCIC) etc. NOTE:

Experience:
Possess a successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE:

Experience:
Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, to meet the total experience requirements for this grade level of GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE:

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. The mental stress however is much more demanding then the physical stress, because of the split second decisions that must be made to prioritize and process information an occasionally dealing with difficult or excited persons. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
