Electronics Technician

This position is located in Engineer Service at the main hospital (3200 Vine Street, Cincinnati, OH) however the incumbent in this position is also responsible for all the electronic systems at all CBOC locations. Locations:

The incumbent is responsible for installing and testing the system security configuration and monitoring, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware and software. The incumbent provides oversight and service on all aspects of the information technology programs maintained by Engineering including:
standardization of the LAN configuration; monitoring of technical support and service provided on hardware; software; cable-plant and data-line problems; implementation of national standards; coordination of all office renovations affecting assigned equipment to ensure all needed communications are available, and coordination with senior management areas to ensure that information technology services meet program requirements. The systems maintained and supported within engineering include but are not limited to, fire alarm, building automation systems, nurse call, overhead paging, security system including cameras, standalone security cameras, satellite television, wireless communication (Vocera), middleware systems, and standalone systems for specific functions. All of these systems utilize networks to transmit data and servers to process data. Other duties include but are not limited to:
Inspect, test and provide maintenance to the Ascom Intelligence system. Inspect, test and provide maintenance to the nurse call system and other building management systems. Responsible for the preventative maintenance, testing and repair of the following systems:
Fire Alarm, Building Management Systems (HVAC Controls), Nurse Call System, CCTV and TVs. Serves as an electronics technician responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, repairing, and troubleshooting in order to meet customer needs. Detects, analyzes, isolates, and corrects issues/errors. Makes recommendations to remove systems, maintain systems, and/or restore systems. Develops and recommends improvements to existing systems. Administration of all electronic and low voltage systems, including a myriad of associated hardware platforms, software applications and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Troubleshoots problems and implements changes on multiple computer platforms. Diagnoses system failures to isolate source of problems between equipment, system software, and application programs. Provides solutions by modifying codes, devising fixes, documenting problems and advising responsible party. Interacts with peers and vendors to resolve hardware and software problems and reports unresolved problems. Assists in maintaining network services, such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Server (DNS), and directory services. Installs, tests, and configures network workstations and peripherals; and instructs customers in logging on and accessing network services. Installs server upgrades; schedules downtime to minimize user impact; monitors server performance using performance monitoring tools; and recognizes and refers problems to more experienced specialists Receives, responds to and ensures complete resolution of any help Engineering Service Trouble Desk call; documents actions taken; gives needed guidance or training to customers to prevent recurrences; and assists more experienced specialists in resolving very complex problems. Inputs service issues into maintenance management database and identifies and reports problematic trends and customer support requirements to supervisor. Analyzes system reports; identifies deficiencies in operating systems parameters; and recommends remediation to appropriate individual. Presents formal and informal training and assistance to customers regarding hardware operations and applications software; and reports, responds to, and resolves customer requests. Repair, overhauls, maintains, installs, modifies and tests complex electronic equipment and instrumentation which requires knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles Handles emergency situations dealing with critical systems such as fire alarms, security, and building automation systems. Monday - Friday, 7a.m.-330p.m. however the incumbent occasionally may be required to work beyond normal duty hours or be subject to emergency call-back. Virtual:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-10) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience as an Electronic Technician, who has inspected, tested and provided maintenance to a nurse call system and building management systems Training, education and/or experience working with the Ascom Intelligence system. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment Previous experience doing preventative Maintenance and repairs of the following:
Fire Alarm Systems, Building Management Systems (HVAC Controls), Nurse call systems, CCTV and TVS. Previous experience and training performing design, installation, and maintenance of electronic systems in a hospital; Ensuring all systems are operating properly, are calibrated, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards; Investigates systems to reduce failures, eliminate safety hazards, and enhance accuracy and reliability; Applied theories, techniques, and applications of digital electronics; Advised management on long term goals of all systems to include presentations, written briefings, white papers, and status reports. Physical Requirements:
Physical demands of this position involve walking, stooping, sitting, climbing ladders, standing, and long periods of intense concentration. Routinely required to crawl on rooftops and under buildings to investigate equipment malfunctions and recommend alternate methods and/or other resolutions as applicable. Commonly lifts objects between 10 and 40 pounds and can be required to lift or move objects over 100 pounds as required. The incumbent sometimes works in hazardous environments but uses the utmost safety precautions. Incumbent is subject to working in damp, cold and other weather conditions. Work is sometimes done from ladder, lifts, etc. The incumbent may be required to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, under buildings, small, tight places, manholes, and where the systems and equipment are in hard to reach places.
